Event Overview: The Institution Innovation Council (IIC) in Collaboration with the Home Science Department of B.A.M. Khalsa College, Garhshankar, celebrated ‘Food Fest’ on the occasion of ‘Nutrition Week’ with great enthusiasm and fervor. The event aimed to foster the spirit of entrepreneurship among students and faculty members, inspiring them to explore innovative ideas and venture into the world of business. The celebration highlighted the importance of entrepreneurship and nutrition in all food items.

Event Proceedings: The students of  B.A.M. Khalsa College, Garhshankar participated in this Startup Fest. In this fest, stalls were installed by the students like Gol Gappe, Dahi Bhalla, Aaloo Pratha, Bhel puri, Paasta, Cold Coffee, Kheer, Kadi Chawal, Lassi etc. The students were very enthusiastic for this event. Overall, the students felt that it was a practical activity of marketing. They made profits by selling these items.  This event was organized very successfully.

Conclusion:

The Institution Innovation Council (IIC) plans to continue organizing such events to nurture and support the entrepreneurial ecosystem within the college.

Feedback: Participants expressed positive feedback, appreciating the knowledge and inspiration they gained from the fest. Many students showed interest in participating in future IIC activities and workshops.

Khalsa College, Garhshankar’sInternal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) in collaboration with Institute Innovation Council (IIC) organised an expert talk on the topic entitled “Innovation and Start-Up Ecosystem Enablers from the Region” under the able guidance of College Principal, Dr.AmandeepHeera on August 05, 2024. This expert talk aimed at exploring the role of the Institute’s Innovation Council (IIC) in fostering entrepreneurship and innovation. The event commenced with a warm welcome to all attendees, highlighting the significance of innovation in driving societal progress and economic development.Principal, Dr.AmandeepHeerawelcomed the esteemed speaker, Dr.GurpreetKaur and introduced her with the College’s IIC and its working.

Speaker: 

Dr.GurpreetKaur, Head of the PG Department of English at Sri Guru TegBhadur College, Anandpur Sahib, and President of the Institute Innovation Council (IIC) and Ambassador, delivered an insightful talk on the theme “Innovation and Start-Up Ecosystem Enablers from the Region.”

Key Areas of Focus:

Aims and Functions of IIC:

Dr.GurpreetKaur began by explaining the aims and functions of the Institute Innovation Council (IIC), established under the Ministry of Education, India. She highlighted the council’s objectives to foster a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship within educational institutions. The primary functions include:

  • Encouraging creative thinking and an entrepreneurial mindset among students and faculty.
  • Organizing workshops, seminars, and competitions to nurture innovative ideas.
  • Providing mentorship and support for converting innovative ideas into viable start-ups.
  • Establishing linkages with industry and other academic institutions for knowledge sharing and collaboration.

Defining Innovation:

Dr.Kaur emphasized the importance of understanding what constitutes innovation. She defined innovation as the process of translating ideas or inventions into goods and services that create value for which customers will pay. Innovation involves:

  • Identifying unmet needs or problems.
  • Developing creative solutions through brainstorming and research.
  • Experimenting and prototyping to refine the solution.
  • Implementing and scaling the solution to achieve market impact.

Converting Innovation to Start-Up:

The session further delved into the process of converting innovative ideas into start-ups. Dr.Kaur outlined the critical steps in this journey:

 

  • Idea Validation: Ensuring that the idea addresses a real problem and has potential market demand.
  • Business Planning: Creating a detailed business plan outlining the business model, target market, revenue streams, and operational plan.
  • Prototyping and Testing: Developing a prototype and conducting tests to gather feedback and make necessary adjustments.
  • Funding and Resources: Exploring various funding options, including grants, angel investors, and venture capital, along with leveraging institutional resources.
  • Market Entry: Strategizing the market entry with a robust marketing and sales plan to reach the target audience.
  • Scaling and Growth: Focusing on scaling the operations, expanding the market reach, and continuously innovating to stay competitive.

Conclusion:

Dr.GurpreetKaur concluded the talk by emphasizing the role of educational institutions and councils like IIC in creating a supportive ecosystem for innovation and start-ups. She encouraged students and faculty to actively participate in innovation activities and leverage the resources and opportunities provided by IIC to transform their ideas into successful ventures.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr.Kuldeepkaur, IQAC Co-ordinator, who expressed gratitude to Dr.GurpreetKaur for her enlightening talk and to all the participants for their enthusiastic involvement. This expert talk was a significant step towards building a robust innovation and start-up ecosystem in the region, empowering students and faculty to contribute to the nation’s entrepreneurial landscape.The session was highly interactive, with participants engaging in a Q&A session, seeking guidance and insights from Dr.Kaur on various aspects of innovation and entrepreneurship.

The Department of Chemistry of B.A.M Khalsa College, Garhshankar in collaboration with Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) and Mahatma Gandhi National Council for Rural Education (MGNCRE) under the aegis of III Society of Science organized one day seminar on the topic “Abandon Plastic, Embrace Creative Substitutes” on 25-Nov-2023. In this event, the key speaker of the event Mr. Neeraj Virdi delivered a talk on the topic in which various environmental problems arising due to plastic were discussed. The recent chemistry seminar on “Abandon Plastic, Embrace Creative Substitutes” proved to be a pivotal event, addressing the pressing need for sustainable alternatives in the face of escalating plastic pollution. The seminar delved into various aspects of the issue, exploring innovative solutions and the role of chemistry in forging a more sustainable future. The seminar commenced with an in-depth analysis of detrimental impacts of plastic on the environment, emphasizing the urgency to find eco-friendly alternatives. Expert highlighted the intricate chemistry involved in developing substitutes that can mimic the functionality of plastic while being biodegradable or derived from renewable sources. Nevertheless, the overall tone of the seminar was optimistic, emphasizing the opportunities for chemists to pioneer transformative changes in material sciences. Also, the faculties and students of various departments were present in the seminar. This event was also attended by Prof. Lakhwinderjeet Kaur (Principal), Dr. Manbeer Kaur (H.O.D life sciences), Dr. Kuldeep Kaur, Prof. Jaswinder Kaur (H.O.D Mathematics), Dr. Janki Aggarwal. Organizing committee members are Dr. Mukesh Sharma, Prof. Baldeep Kaur, Prof. Anchal. Prof. Lakhwinderjeet Kaur (Principal) appreciated the PowerPoint presentations given by the key speaker and advices the students to minimize the use of plastic. The event has been attended by 18 teaching faculty of different departments and 34 students of various departments of the college.

Report In an inspiring showcase of innovation, B.A.M. Khalsa College, Garhshankar, hosted an Intra-College Idea Competition on November 25, 2023, organized by IQAC in collaboration with IIC. Under the capable coordination of Dr. Kuldeep Kaur, this event brought together students from various classes to present their creative concepts aligned with the themes of Science, Computer, and Mathematics.

 

The event, hosted by Prof. Deepika and Dr. Ajay Dutta, witnessed enthusiastic participation from diverse classes. Students enthusiastically presented their novel ideas, reflecting the college’s commitment to fostering creativity and critical thinking.

 

In the Science category, students unveiled innovative projects ranging from eco-friendly solutions to breakthroughs in healthcare and controlling pollutions. The Computer segment showcased inventive applications addressing real-world challenges, while the Mathematics presentations delved into intricate problem-solving and mathematical modeling.

 

The competition not only provided a platform for students to exhibit their talents but also highlighted the collaborative spirit of the academic community. Dr. Kuldeep Kaur, as the IQAC coordinator, expressed satisfaction with the vibrant display of ideas and the commitment of students to intellectual exploration.

 

The judges Prof Chandni, Prof Gurpreet Kaur, Prof Amandeep Kaur evaluated the posters based on creativity, feasibility, and potential impact.

The Institute’s Innovation Council, in collaboration with the Department of Languages at B.A.M. Khalsa College, Garhshankar, hosted an inspiring guest lecture on November 24, 2023. The event, titled “Breaking Barriers, Building Empires: The Journey of a Successful Woman,” aimed to shed light on the remarkable journey of successful women in various fields.

The event commenced at 10 am under the guidance of the Convener, Prof. Navdeep Singh, and Dr. Ajay Dutta. The esteemed College Principal, Lakhwinderjeet Kaur, graced the occasion, emphasizing the importance of such sessions in fostering a spirit of empowerment among students.

The distinguished speaker for the day was Mrs. Dilpreet Kaur, the accomplished owner of the renowned food outlet, Delicious Bite, with branches in Garhshankar and Nawanshahr, Punjab. Mrs. Dilpreet Kaur shared her journey, highlighting the challenges she overcame and the strategies she employed in establishing and expanding her successful enterprise.

Students and faculty alike were captivated by Mrs. Kaur’s narrative, as she eloquently articulated the hurdles she faced. Her insights into entrepreneurship, leadership, and community engagement left a lasting impact on the audience.

The interactive session that followed allowed students to pose questions and seek advice directly from Mrs. Dilpreet Kaur, transforming the lecture into a valuable dialogue. The event concluded at 12.30 pm with a vote of thanks from the organizers, expressing gratitude to Mrs. Kaur for sharing her invaluable experiences.

On this Occasion, IIC members Dr. Kuldeep Kaur, Prof. Deepika, and other Faculty Members including Dr. Manbeer Kaur, Prof. Jatinder Kaur, Prof. Jaswinder Kaur, Prof. Preetinder Singh, Prof. Kamini, Prof. Manpreet Singh and others were present.

In summary, the guest lecture proved to be an enriching experience, providing the students of B.A.M. Report:

Session I

A Visit to Govt. High School, Pojewal was organized by the Department of Education, BAMKC. All the enrolled students of B.A.B.Ed. and B.Sc.B.Ed. Semester –I participated in this visit. The two teachers Prof. Kiranjot Kaur and Prof. Manisha Rani from the department accompanied the students. During the visit students held interview session with various stakeholders of the school. They interviewed the Principal, Mr. Harkesh Lal Mundan to seek the knowledge about student strength, their achievements, physical facilities etc. after that, they interviewed the teaching and non-teaching staff of the school to know about their teaching strategies and the other administration policies. Later they interviewed the students randomly of different classes to know their opinions about the school. They asked open ended questions to get deep insight into the problems faced by the students. Students also visited the school plant including classrooms, labs, library, kitchen, washrooms etc. to know the hygienic conditions of the school.

Session II

After the school visit, a brainstorming session was held with the students. In this session, the students highlighted the various strengths, weaknesses, threats and opportunities for the school also made some suggestions in this regard.

  • Well-furnished Library (1699 books)
  • Science and Maths Lab
  • Use of BALA work (Building As Learning Aid)

Weakness:

  • Student Strength is Low (130 only)
  • Issue of cleanliness
  • Playground lacks maintenance

Opportunities

  • Availability of Bus can improve Strength in the near future
  • Parents-Teacher Meeting is held regularly
  • Free books and uniform for students
  • Sports achievements at State level in Volleyball
  • Good achievements by the students

Threats

  • Unclean Washrooms can spread various diseases
  • Issue of security
  • Sports achievements can lower down in the near future due to unavailability of physical education teacher.

Suggestions:

  • Employ a regular sweeper in the school for cleanliness
  • Installation of CCTV cameras at the entrance of the school can improve security and surveillance
  • Need of full time Physical Education teacher.
  • Playground must be well maintained.
