Poster presentation on “Science for a Sustainable Future”

National Science Day has been celebrated on 28 February, 1987 for first time. On this day, we remember invention of “Raman Effect” by Indian Scientist Sir C.V. Raman. This year National Science Day has been celebrated on 28 February, 2024 by Department of Sciences and Education in collaboration with IIC and MGNCRE under the aegis of III Society of Science. The theme of the National Science Day was “Science for a Sustainable Future”. On the day, different competitions like poster presentations, powerpoint presentations, model making, poster making etc. have been conducted by various department. These different events have been conducted under the guidance of Heads of the various Department. The Chemistry Department of B.A.M Khalsa College, Garhshankar has organized poster presentations on the topic “Science for a Sustainable Future” on “National Science Day”. The students of B.Sc. (Medical/Non-medical), B.Sc.B.Ed. (Education) & M.Sc. (Chemistry/Mathematics) have participated in the poster presentations. The 1st position in the competition has been bagged by “Mehakdeep and Anjali” of B.Sc.(Non-medical)-3rd Year, 2nd position was nailed by “Kiranpreet Kaur and Diksha Rani” of B.Sc.B.Ed.-3rd Year and 3rd position was secured by two teams “(Rajni & Bhavna)” of M.Sc.(Chemistry)-1st Year and “(Ishika Verma & Himani Chaudhary)” of B.Sc.B.Ed-2nd Year`. This event was also attended by Prof. Lakhwinderjeet Kaur (Principal), Dr. Manbeer Kaur (H.O.D lifesciences), Dr. Kuldeep Kaur, Prof. Jaswinder Kaur (H.O.D Mathematics), Dr. Janki Aggarwal, Dr. Mukesh Sharma (H.O.D Chemistry), Dr. Sangha Gurbaksh Kaur (H.O.D Eduaction), Dr. Preetinder Singh (H.O.D. Physics) and all the staff members of Science and Education. Organizing committee members for the event of poster presentations are Dr. Mukesh Sharma, Mr. Neeraj Virdi, Prof. Baldeep Kaur, Prof. Anchal. Prof. Lakhwinderjeet Kaur (Principal) also appreciated the posters that has presented by the students in the event. In the celebration of National Science Day, around 12 teaching faculties and 29 students of various departments were present

Seminar on “Abandon Plastic, Embrace Creative Substitutes”

The Department of Chemistry of B.A.M Khalsa College, Garhshankar in collaboration with Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) and Mahatma Gandhi National Council for Rural Education (MGNCRE) under the aegis of III Society of Science organized one day seminar on the topic “Abandon Plastic, Embrace Creative Substitutes” on 25-Nov-2023. In this event, the key speaker of the event Mr. Neeraj Virdi delivered a talk on the topic in which various environmental problems arising due to plastic were discussed. The recent chemistry seminar on “Abandon Plastic, Embrace Creative Substitutes” proved to be a pivotal event, addressing the pressing need for sustainable alternatives in the face of escalating plastic pollution. The seminar delved into various aspects of the issue, exploring innovative solutions and the role of chemistry in forging a more sustainable future. The seminar commenced with an in-depth analysis of detrimental impacts of plastic on the environment, emphasizing the urgency to find eco-friendly alternatives. Expert highlighted the intricate chemistry involved in developing substitutes that can mimic the functionality of plastic while being biodegradable or derived from renewable sources. Nevertheless, the overall tone of the seminar was optimistic, emphasizing the opportunities for chemists to pioneer transformative changes in material sciences. Also, the faculties and students of various departments were present in the seminar. This event was also attended by Prof. Lakhwinderjeet Kaur (Principal), Dr. Manbeer Kaur (H.O.D life sciences), Dr. Kuldeep Kaur, Prof. Jaswinder Kaur (H.O.D Mathematics), Dr. Janki Aggarwal. Organizing committee members are Dr. Mukesh Sharma, Prof. Baldeep Kaur, Prof. Anchal. Prof. Lakhwinderjeet Kaur (Principal) appreciated the PowerPoint presentations given by the key speaker and advices the students to minimize the use of plastic. The event has been attended by 18 teaching faculty of different departments and 34 students of various departments of the college.

                                       

                                  




Educational Visit on “21 April, 2023”.

 

The Department of Chemistry of B.A.M. Khalsa College, Garhshankar has organized an educational visit to Department of Chemistry & Centre for Advanced Studies in Chemistry, Panjab University, Chandigarh. In this visit, Dr. Mukesh Sharma and Mr. Neeraj Virdi accompanied the 9 Students of M.Sc.-Chemistry from the department. In this visit, students were given exposure to working of various highly sophisticated instrumental techniques like FTIR, CHNS-O analyser, U.V. Spectrophotometer, Fluorescence & Zetasizer etc. This visit has enriched the student’s knowledge to excel in the field of chemical research.




Powerpoint Presentation on “Why Chemistry Matters?” Dated: 30-May-2022

The Department of Chemistry, under the aegis of III Society of Science has organised the powerpoint presentation on the topic “Why chemistry matters?” on 30th May, 2022 at 9.00 a.m. in the Room No. 33. The event has been organized by the teaching faculty, Prof. Mukesh Sharma, Prof. Neeraj Virdi & Prof. Baldeep Kaur of Chemistry Department of B.A.M. Khalsa College, Garhshankar. In this competition the 14 students of M.Sc. (Chemistry) & B.Sc./B.Sc.B.Ed.(Medical/Non-medical) have presented on the various topics of Chemistry. Approximately, around 50 students have attended this seminar. The first position has been nailed by Ms. Anchal & Ms. Manisha, the students of M.Sc. (Chemistry) while the second position was bagged by Ms. Riya and Ms. Mansi of B.Sc.B.Ed.(Non-medical) & third position was acquired by Ms. Lishika and Ms. Harmanpreet Kaur of B.Sc.(Non-medical). All the participants was awarded with the prizes and certificates by the Principal, Dr. Baljit Singh Khehra of the college.  Dr. Baljit Singh Khehra Ji has told the students about the importance of participation in the various seminars and encouraged the students to participate in such events in future also.

This event was also attended by Prof. Jaspal Singh (Principal), Dr. Manbeer Kaur (H.O.D lifesciences), Dr. Kuldeep Kaur, Prof. Jaswinder Kaur (H.O.D Mathematics), Dr. Janki Aggarwal, Dr. Mukesh Sharma (H.O.D Chemistry), Dr. Sangha Gurbaksh Kaur (H.O.D Eduaction), Dr. Preetinder Singh (H.O.D. Physics) and all the staff members of Science and Education. In the celebration of National Science Day, around 35 teaching faculties and 100 students of various departments were present.




Chemistry Seminar on “Discard Plastic, Adopt Innovative Alternatives” Dated:22-02-2023

The Department of Chemistry of B.A.M Khalsa College, Garhshankar in collaboration with Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) and Mahatma Gandhi National Council for Rural Education (MGNCRE) under the aegis of III Society of Science organized one day workshop cum seminar on the topic “Discard plastic, Adopt Innovative Alternatives” on 22-Feb-2023. In this event, the key speaker of the event Mr. Neeraj Virdi delivered a talk on the topic in which various environmental problems arising due to plastic were discussed. He also proposed other innovative alternatives so as to reduce the use of plastic. Also, the students of B.Sc./B.Sc.B.Ed.  and M.Sc. Chemistry have  participated in the PowerPoint presentations in which First position was bagged by Manisha Rani and Anchal of MSc (Chemistry)-2nd year, Second position was secured by Lishika and Jashan of B.Sc. (Non-medical)-3rd year and Third position was nailed by Kirandeep Kaur and Sohani of B.Sc.-1st year. Also, Mansi Rana, Riya, Ishika Verma, Simran Kaur, Harmanpreet Kaur, Kirti, Lovepreet Singh and Karan Singh Mann got consolation prizes. This event was also attended by Prof. Jaspal Singh (Principal), Dr. Manbeer Kaur (H.O.D life sciences), Dr. Kuldeep Kaur, Prof. Jaswinder Kaur (H.O.D Mathematics), Dr. Janki Aggarwal, Prof. Preetinder Kaur. Organizing committee members are Dr. Mukesh Sharma, Prof. Baldeep Kaur, Prof. Aayna Cheetu, Prof. Sakshi. Prof. Jaswal Singh (Principal) appreciated the PowerPoint presentations given by students and advices the students to minimize the use of plastic.
