Intra-College Article Writing Competition on the topic “Importance of Chemistry in Daily Life”

Under the able guidance and visionary leadership of Principal, Dr. Amandeep Heera, the Chemistry Department, Babbar Akali Memorial Khalsa College, Garhshankar, organised an intra-college Article Writing Competition on the topic “Importance of Chemistry in Daily Life” on 6th April 2026 in Lecture Hall (Room No. 42). The event aimed to enhance students writing skills and awareness about the role of chemistry in everyday life. Many students participated enthusiastically and presented thoughtful and creative articles. The competition was successfully organised by the teaching faculty of the Chemistry Department; Dr. Mukesh Sharma (Head of the Chemistry Department), Mr. Neeraj Virdi, Ms. Baldeep Kaur, Ms. Esha Rani. The organising committee ensured the smooth conduct of the event. In this competition the 1st position is achieved by Ritika of B.Sc.B.Ed. 4th Semester, 2nd position was bagged by Muskan of B.Sc.B.Ed.4th Semester and the 3rd position was nailed by Dheeraj & Jashanpreet of B.Sc.B.Ed. 4th semester. The event was successful and provided a valuable platform for students to express their ideas.




An Online Expert Lecture entitled “How to Write a Research Paper”

Under the visionary leadership and the able guidance of the worthy Principal, Dr. Amandeep Heera, the Chemistry Department of Babbar Akali Memorial Khalsa College, Garhshankar, successfully organized an online expert lecture on the topic “How to Write a Research Paper” on 28th March 2026 at 10:00 AM via Google Meet. The session was delivered by Ms. Sonia Sharma, Assistant Professor, Lamrin Tech Skills University, who served as the Key Speaker. The event was conducted under the guidance and the leadership of Dr. Mukesh Sharma, Head of the Chemistry Department. The lecture aimed to provide students and faculty members with a comprehensive understanding of the process of writing a high-quality research paper. Ms. Sonia Sharma elaborated on various essential aspects, including Selection of a suitable research topic, Structuring of research papers, Literature review techniques, Citation and referencing styles, Avoidance of plagiarism, Tips for publishing in reputed journals. The session was highly informative and interactive. Participants actively engaged in the discussion and clarified their queries during the Q&A session. The speaker also shared practical insights and real-world examples, which enhanced the understanding of attendees. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as faculty members of the institute. The lecture proved to be extremely beneficial for budding researchers and students aspiring to pursue academic research. The programme was efficiently coordinated by the teaching faculty of the chemistry department Mr. Neeraj Virdi, Ms. Baldeep Kaur, Ms. Sandeep Kaur, Ms. Esha Rani as an organizing committee. The session concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the speaker for her valuable time and knowledge, as well as to all participants for their active involvement.

An Educational Tour to “Chattbir Zoo, Chandigarh; Nature Trail, Ropar; and Gurdwara Tibbi Sahib, Ropar”.

An educational tour was successfully organized by the Departments of Sciences and Education of Babbar Akali Memorial Khalsa College, Garhshankar under the esteemed guidance of Principal Dr. Amandeep Heera. The tour aimed to provide students with practical exposure, environmental awareness, and experiential learning beyond the classroom.
The tour included visits to Chattbir Zoo, Chandigarh, Nature Trail at Ropar, and Gurdwara Tibbi Sahib, Ropar. A group of enthusiastic students participated in the tour along with faculty members from the Department of Life Sciences and Education.
At Chattbir Zoo, students observed a wide variety of wildlife species, gaining knowledge about biodiversity, animal behavior, and conservation efforts. The visit enriched their understanding of ecological balance and the importance of protecting endangered species.
The next destination was the Nature Trail at Ropar, where students explored the natural environment and studied local flora and fauna. This visit provided hands-on learning experiences related to ecosystems, environmental sustainability, and biodiversity conservation.
The group also visited Gurdwara Tibbi Sahib, Ropar, where students experienced spiritual enrichment and learned about cultural and religious values. The visit instilled a sense of peace, discipline, and respect for heritage.
The tour was accompanied by Head of the Department of life Sciences, Dr. Manbeer Kaur, along with faculty members Dr. Naresh Kumari, Prof. Chandni, Prof. Amanpreet Kaur, Prof. Pragati Bhanot, Prof. Simran Kaur, Prof. Kajal,. Prof. Esha, and Lab Attendant S. Jaspal Singh, who ensured the smooth coordination and safety of all participants.




One Day Intra-College Poster Presentation Competition on “Role of Women in Science and Innovation”

Under the visionary leadership of Dr. Amandeep Heera, Principal Babbar Akali Memorial Khalsa College, Garhshankar, the Chemistry Department, under the aegis of the III Society of Science Students and in collaboration with the Institution Innovation Council (IIC), organized a One Day Intra-College Poster Presentation Competition on 28th February 2026 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chemistry Department. The theme of the competition was “Role of Women in Science and Innovation.” The program was further supported by Dr. Mukesh Sharma, Head of the Chemistry Department, Mr. Neeraj Virdi, Ms. Baldeep Kaur, Ms. Sandeep Kaur, and Ms. Esha Rani, Assistant Professors in the Chemistry Department.

The objective of the competition was to highlight the significant contributions of women in science and innovation, promote gender equality in STEM fields, and encourage creativity, research aptitude, and presentation skills among students.
Students from various classes enthusiastically participated and presented informative and creative posters showcasing the achievements of renowned women scientists, women-led innovations, challenges faced by women in STEM, and initiatives supporting women in research and technology. The participants confidently presented their ideas before the judges. The posters were evaluated based on relevance to the theme, originality, scientific content, presentation skills, and overall impact.

According to the final results, Siya and Payal from B.Sc. B.Ed. Fourth Semester secured the First Prize. Ramandeep and Komal from M.Sc. Chemistry, Second Semester secured the Second Prize, while Diksha Rani and Nitika from M.Sc. Chemistry, Second Semester secured the Third Prize. Two Consolation Prizes were awarded to Kiranpreet from M.Sc. Chemistry, Second Semester, and Dheeraj Choudhury and Jashandeep from B.Sc. B.Ed. Fourth Semester. All winners were awarded prizes and certificates for their outstanding performances.

The event proved to be highly successful in promoting awareness about the vital role of women in science and fostering innovative thinking among students. The Department of Chemistry expressed sincere gratitude to the Principal, organizing committee members, and participants for making the event meaningful and successful.

IPR basics for Innovators and Entrepreneurs

The Department of Chemistry at Babbar Akali Memorial Khalsa College, Garhshankar, in collaboration with the Institution Innovation Council (IIC), organized a one-day online mentoring session on 27 November 2025 at 12:30 pm on the topic “IPR Basics for Innovators and Entrepreneurs”. The event, aimed to create awareness about Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) among students, innovators, and young entrepreneurs. The session focused on explaining the concept of IPR, its different types, and its importance in protecting creative and innovative work. It also emphasized the role of IPR in entrepreneurship, product development, and research, highlighting how legal protection of ideas can encourage innovation and prevent misuse.
The program was held under the guidance of Dr. Amandeep Heera, Principal of the college, along with Dr. Ajay Dutta, President of IIC, and Dr. Mukesh Sharma, Head of the Department of Chemistry. The organising committee consisted of Ms. Baldeep Kaur, and Ms. Esha Rani, Assistant Professors in the Department of Chemistry.
The key speaker for the session was Ms. Sandeep Kaur, Member of the Institution Innovation Council, who delivered an insightful presentation covering the fundamentals of patents, copyrights, trademarks, and other forms of intellectual property. Her talk helped participants understand how intellectual property can add value to innovative ideas and support entrepreneurial ventures.
The Session was attended by 10 faculty members and 31 students of UG, PG courses. Overall, the mentoring session proved highly beneficial, providing students and innovators with essential knowledge about Intellectual Property Rights. It helped attendees appreciate the importance of protecting their creative work and encouraged them to consider IPR as an integral part of the innovation and entrepreneurship process. The session successfully cultivated interest and understanding of IPR among the participants, contributing to the broader goal of fostering a culture of creativity and innovation within the institution.




One Day Mentoring Session On “Learn Start and Minimum Viable Product/Business”

The Department of Chemistry of Babbar Akali Memorial Khalsa College, Garhshankar, in collaboration with the Institution Innovation Council (IIC), organized a One Day Mentoring Session on “Learn Start-up & Minimum Viable Product / Business” on 22nd August ,2025 at 10:00 am in Room No. 18. The event was held under the able guidance of the Principal, Dr. Amandeep Heera. The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Mukesh Sharma, Head of the Department of Chemistry, who shared valuable insights on entrepreneurship, start-up culture, and the importance of developing a minimum viable product (MVP) before launching a business venture. The session witnessed active participation with 30 students and 10 faculty members in attendance. The interactive discussions provided the participants with knowledge of innovation, idea development, and the roadmap to successful entrepreneurship. The organizing committee members—Mr. Neeraj Virdi (Assistant Professor, Chemistry), Ms. Baldeep Kaur (Assistant Professor, Chemistry), and Ms. Sandeep Kaur (Member, IIC)—worked diligently to make the session a success. The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session, where students and faculty exchanged ideas with the speaker. The participants appreciated the initiative, highlighting its relevance in today’s innovation-driven environment.
Outcome: The mentoring session successfully motivated the students and faculty to explore entrepreneurial opportunities, emphasizing the significance of innovation, research, and product development in shaping future ventures.
