Visit to agriculture Kissan Mela at Dr. B R Bhumbla Regional Research Center Balowal Saunkary 08/09/2023

On September 08, 2023, a one-day visit was made to Kisan Mela Balowal Saunkary SBS Nagar by the Life sciences department of B.A.M. Khalsa college, Garhshankar, in which the head of the department, Dr. Manbeer Kaur, teachers Prof. Ashwani Kumar, Prof. Anchal, lab attendant Jaspal Singh and +1, +2 (Medical), B.Sc, B.ScB.ed students were included. During this visit, first of all, the students along with the teachers went to Dr. B R Bhumbla Regional Research Center where they got information about seeds, fertilizers, animal feed, pure honey etc. from the different stalls there. In the research center students also visited different field crops and got information of light trap (collection of insects). Some students and teachers purchase seeds of vegetables and ornamental plants.

The students and teachers enjoyed the visit and enrich their knowledge

On the occasion of World Environment Day, B.A.M Khalsa College, Garhshankar, under the aegis of MISSION LIFE-an initiative of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, organized a Technical-talk-cum webinarto promote sustainablepractices and discuss the importance of incorporating sustainability in mission life. The webinar aimed to raise awareness about the environmental challenges we face and the role individuals and organizations can play in fostering sustainable living. The event brought together experts, professionals, and enthusiasts from various fields to share their insights and experiences.

Keynote Speaker:

Dr. Avtar Kaur Sidhu (Officer-in-Charge & Scientist E, Zoological Survey of India, Saproon, Himachal Pradesh)

Asst. Prof. Navdeep Singh initiated the webinar by giving a warm welcome to all the participants and introduced the keynote speaker with the participants. Prof. Janki Aggarwal gave a formal welcome to the keynote speaker.

Dr. Avtar Kaur Sidhu-the keynote speaker, highlighted the importance of reducing carbon footprint, conserving energy and water, adopting renewable energy sources, and practicing mindful consumption. She also emphasized the significance of sustainable transportation, waste management, and promoting biodiversity in daily life.

 




World Environment Day 5/6/2023

Webinar on World Environment Day

On 05.06.2023, a webinar was organised on the occassion of World Environment Day by The Institution of Engineers, Punjab and Chandigarh State Centre jointly with B.A.M. Khalsa College,Garhshankar. Prof. Ritu of Language Department, welcomed and introduced all the guests of the webinar. The theme of this webinar was- Solution to Plastic Pollution. Firstly, she invited Dr. Labh Singh, he talked about different types of pollutions , their negative effects and the methods to mitigate the problem arised by pollution,in which he discussed recycle, reuse, renewable energy, preserve wildlife, Global collaboration.

Then, key speaker of this webinar- Mr. Amit Kumar discussed about the theme. He showed his presentation in which he talked about Circular Plastic Economy. Also, he gave few examples to show that how Indian people reuse things after they fully used. He discussed about e-waste that is also contributing to plastic pollution. In his conclusion, he gave emphasize on 3 things, i.e. reuse, recycle and reorient and diversify.

After that,HOD of Life Sciences Department Dr. Manbeer Kaur , Guest of honour of today’s webinar, shared her views on single use plastic, its bad effects on animals and environment. According to her, reuse and recycling methods should be done in practice rather than saying.

Then, Dr. Rajni Lamba, CEO REEDS, Chief Guest of webinar, shared her views on reorient and diversify.She also motivated  all to save the earth by reducing the use of plastic, so that we can make an earth a wonderful place to live for our coming generation.

Er. S.S.Mundi, FIE was also the part of this webinar. In the end, Er. Swinder Singh, FIE gave vote of thanks to all the guests and participants of this webinar.

Visit to FCI Garhshankar and Apiary on 11/04/2023

A survey (visit) for B.Sc,B.Sc.B.Ed -6th sem. students was organized , by the Department of Life Sciences of B.A.M. Khalsa College Garhshankar. Firstly students visited the village Hazipur.There, Mr. Sahil is Bee keeper,who took training 6 years ago from KVK Bahowal. He is a successful bee keeper. He explained everything about Bee keeping to the students. Students gained practical Knowledge.

After Bee Keeping ,students visited  FCI ,Garhshankar. Here students  understood Stored grain management. Technical Knowledge of fumigation, Moisture Content, Stacking and lifting etc.was gained by the students. Mr. Sanjay Taneja Manager (depot)and Mr. Vaibhau Garg ,Tech.Assitt (I) gave indepth knowledge to the students. The Visit was  possible with the efforts of HOD of Department – Dr. Manbeer Kaur, Prof. Ashwani Kumar, Prof. Jaspreet Kaur & Lab Attendents-Jaspal Singh & Hardeep Singh.

World Water Day 22/03/2023

World water was celebrated on 22/03/2023 by Life Sciences department in collaboration with REEDS and IIC. On this occasion

an essay writing competition on the topic “How I Will Conserve Water In This Summer?”.  26 students of B.Sc , B.Sc B.Ed presented there ideas on this topic. Kirandeep Kaur 1st , Riya 2nd and Moksha Sahota took 3rd Position in this competition.




TWO DAYS Workshop cum training on ” SKILL DEVELOPMENT –DRAFTING AND CUTTING FOR ENTREPRENEURIAL SETUP”

The IIC cell of Babbar Akali Memorial Khalsa College, Garhshankar organised two days Workshop cum training on ” SKILL DEVELOPMENT –DRAFTING AND CUTTING FOR ENTREPRENEURIAL SETUP”. This workshop was conducted by Jatinder Kaur Asst. Prof. Home Science and Convener of IIC(1-2March)

Main motive of this workshop was to train students to start their own small scale entrepreneur. Many students took part in this training and show their great enthusiasm. Students were happy to have a skill to start their new setup and become earning hand for sustainability. Principal Prof. Jaspal Singh appreciated the staff and encouraged to organise such helpful events in future also.

Drafting is defined as a method of drawing patterns on paper with mechanical precision using body measurements. A basic pattern or a ‘block’ or a ‘master’ or a ‘foundation pattern’ can be generated through drafting. A ‘sloper’ or ‘block’ is a custom-fitted basic pattern from which patterns for many different styles can be created. It consists of five basic pattern pieces or set – bodice front, bodice back, skirt front, skirt back and the sleeve

Prof. Jatinder kaur Said students can start their fashion designing business with a very little capital. The profit margin in this business is as high as nearly 75 per cent of the investment. The initial cost of the material is very cheap, but the value of the same reaches sky high after the dying process. So, with a small investment, you can easily earn a huge margin of profit.

This was surely a motivating and eye-opening session.04 faculty members and 11 student leader participated in the training.




National Science Day 28/2/2023

Babbar Akali Memorial Khalsa College , Garhshankar Under the management of SGPC ,Sri Amritsar Sahib. Affiliated to Panjab University Chandigarh, National Science Day 2023 was celebrated by Science and Education departments in collaboration with III society of science students.Different Events were organised like poster making,poster presentation, power point presentation,Model (static and working)and games and puzzles More than 150 students participated in different activities.
