One Day Workshop on Basics of Intellectual Property Rights and its importance for Innovators and Entrepreneurs

 

Under the leadership of Principal Dr. Amandeep Heera, The Department of Commerce in collaboration with the Institutional Innovation Council (IIC), held a one-day workshop titled “Basics of Intellectual Property Rights and Its Importance for Innovators and Entrepreneurs” on 30th March 2026. This impactful event was organized under the insightful leadership of Prof. Kanwar Kulwant Singh, Head of Department of Commerce and Dr. Ajay Dutta, President of the IIC, with the goal of inspiring students to adopt an entrepreneurial mindset and safeguard their innovations through intellectual property protection.

The program began with a warm welcome by Prof. Gurpreet Singh Kalsi, he highlighted the essential role of Intellectual Property (IP) in fostering creativity and driving growth within the business world.

The workshop’s keynote speaker, Prof. Gurjinder Kaur, delivered an enlightening presentation on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), discussing its significance, various types, and the legal protections that safeguard these rights.

The event was further enriched by the presence of distinguished faculty members Dr. Gurpreet Singh, Prof. Gurpreet Singh Kalsi, Prof. Manmohan Singh, Prof. Deepti, and Prof. Ranjeet Kaur from the Department of Commerce.

Students actively engaged in the workshop, gaining practical insights into IP registration and enforcement, making the experience both educational and hands-on.

The workshop concluded as a resounding success, achieving its goal of enhancing participants’ understanding of IP rights and their invaluable role in today’s economy.

 

 




ComFest 2026

The Business Students’ Association (BSA), Department of Commerce, under the aegis of the Institutions’ Innovation Council, successfully organized ComFest 2026 on 24 March 2026 at Babbar Akali Memorial Khalsa College. The event saw enthusiastic participation from students.

The event was conducted under the leadership of Principal Dr. Amandeep Heera. The Vice Principal Prof. Lakhwinderjeet Kaur also graced the occasion. This event was organised under the able guidance of the Head of the Department Prof. Kanwar Kulwant Singh, Business Students’ Association (BSA) Chairperson Dr. Gurpreet Singh, and Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) President Dr. Ajay Dutta. Faculty Members involved were Prof. Gurpreet Singh Kalsi, Prof. Gurjinder Kaur, Prof. Manmohan Singh, Prof. Deepti, Prof. Ranjeet Kaur, and Prof. Arshdeep Kaur.

ComFest 2026 aimed to enhance students’ entrepreneurial, communication, managerial, and teamwork skills by providing them with a practical platform to showcase their creativity and business acumen. The fest featured a variety of activities including food stalls, games, model displays, and poster presentations. Students actively managed food stalls, applying their marketing and selling skills, while games and fun activities created a vibrant atmosphere. Creative models and posters reflected innovative ideas in commerce and business.

Students played a key role in organizing the event, handling finance, stall management, coordination, and promotion, thereby gaining valuable hands-on experience in event management and business operations. The fest concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, where winners were awarded certificates and prizes. The Principal appreciated the efforts of the organizing team and participants. ComFest 2026 proved to be a great success, fostering confidence, leadership, and practical learning among students.

Educational and Adventure Trip 2026

Under the able guidance of Principal Dr. Amandeep Heera, the Department of Commerce and Department of Computer Science, in collaboration with the IIC and IT Cell, organized an Educational and Adventure Trip to National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT), Chandigarh – Ropar Campus, Chandigarh – Ropar Campus followed by an adventure visit to Barota Farm on 23rd February, 2026. The trip aimed to provide practical exposure, technical awareness, and recreational learning to students.

Visit to NIELIT, Chandigarh – Ropar Campus

The first phase of the trip included an academic visit to the National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT), Ropar Campus. Students attended an insightful workshop conducted by Dr. Sarwan Singh, who elaborated on emerging technologies, digital innovations, and skill development opportunities in the IT sector.

The session was highly interactive and informative, encouraging students to explore career prospects in electronics, information technology, and digital transformation.

Students were also taken on a guided visit to the AR/VR laboratories, where they observed practical demonstrations of Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) applications. The visit enhanced their understanding of real-world technological advancements and their applications in commerce, education, and industry. Prof. Kanwar Kulwant Singh Incharge IT Cell, Dr. Ajay Dutta IIC President, Dr. Gurpreet Singh, CGPC Coordinator, also joined this workshop. 

Refreshments were served to the students after the workshop session.

Adventure Trip to Barota Farm

After the academic visit, students proceeded to Barota Farm for recreational and team-building activities. The adventure segment included:

  • Rope related activities
  • Zorb roller
  • Trekking
  • Tug of war 
  • Other fun-filled outdoor challenges

These activities helped students develop teamwork, confidence, leadership qualities, and physical fitness.

Lunch was arranged at the venue, followed by a music session where students enjoyed and relaxed after the adventurous activities. The lively atmosphere strengthened bonding among students and faculty members.

The trip was a perfect blend of education and recreation. The workshop at NIELIT provided valuable technical exposure, while the adventure activities at Barota Farm promoted team spirit and refreshment. Overall, the visit was informative, engaging, and memorable for all participants.

The Departments of Commerce and Computer Science, along with IIC and IT Cell, deserve appreciation for organizing such a well-coordinated and enriching program for students.




Data Protection in Commerce: Trust, Transparency & Trade

In the digital era, data protection has become a vital component of commercial activities. To spread awareness on this important issue, the Department of Commerce organized an academic event on 30 January 2026 based on the theme “Data Protection in Commerce: Trust, Transparency & Trade.” The objectives of the event were:

  • To educate students about the importance of data protection in commerce 
  • To highlight the role of trust and transparency in business practices 
  • To understand how secure data handling supports ethical trade 
  • To create awareness about challenges related to data security

The session was conducted by Prof. Gurpreet Singh Kalsi, who acted as the Resource Person for the event. Through an informative PowerPoint presentation, he explained:

  • The concept and importance of data protection
  • Responsibilities of businesses in safeguarding customer data
  • Relationship between data security, trust, and transparency
  • Impact of data protection on smooth and fair trade

His presentation was engaging and helped students understand the topic using practical examples. The event was organized under the guidance of Principal Dr. Amandeep Heera, whose continuous support ensured the successful conduct of the programme. The event proved to be informative and insightful. It enhanced students’ knowledge about data protection in commerce and emphasized the need for ethical data practices. The session successfully conveyed that trust, transparency, and secure data management are essential for sustainable business growth. Prof. Kanwar Kulwant Singh Head of the Department of Commerce also interacted with students and shared some recent issues in the era of data protection.




MY Bharat Budget Quest 2026

MY Bharat Budget Quest 2026 was organized at Babbar Akali Memorial Khalsa College, Garhshankar, with the objective of enhancing public understanding of the Union Budget 2026. The initiative, launched by the Government of India, aims to make budgetary provisions more accessible, relatable, and citizen-centric, especially for the youth of the nation. The event was conducted with the objective of enhancing students’ understanding of the Union Budget 2026–27 and promoting financial literacy, economic awareness, and analytical skills among commerce students. 

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students of B.Com. The event was designed as an interactive budget quiz and discussion platform, encouraging participants to critically analyze key highlights of the Union Budget 2026–27, including taxation reforms, fiscal policies, sectoral allocations, digital economy initiatives, MSME support, infrastructure development, and employment generation schemes. 

Upon successful completion of the MY Bharat Budget Quest 2026, all participating students were awarded Digital Certificates under the Government of India Youth Engagement Initiative. The certificates served as recognition of their active participation and enhanced understanding of the Union Budget.

The digital certification not only motivated students but also added academic value to their profiles.

The Business Students’ Association of the Department of Commerce B.A.M. Khalsa College, Garhshankar organised a scholarship distribution ceremony under the able guidance of Head of the Department Prof. Kanwar Kulwant Singh. This event was organised under the directions of Principal Dr. Amandeep Heera. Bandi Chhod Diwas and Diwali Celebration

On the occasion of Bandi Chhod Diwas and Diwali, the Business Students’ Association (BSA) of the Department of Commerce organized a vibrant celebration under the guidance of Prof. Kanwar Kulwant Singh, Head of the Department. Principal Dr. Amandeep Heera graced the event as the Chief Guest.

The programme began with a warm welcome by Miss Mehak, President of BSA. The entire department was beautifully decorated by the students, showcasing their creativity and festive spirit. Various competitions were held, including Rangoli making, Diya decoration, dance, music, and poetry, in which students participated enthusiastically.

Principal Dr. Amandeep Heera interacted with the students, extending his best wishes for Diwali and appreciating the efforts of the faculty members. Prof. Kanwar Kulwant Singh congratulated the BSA members for organizing such a successful and joyous event. Dr. Ajay Dutta, Head of the Department of Computer Science and Applications, also addressed and blessed the students. Dr. Gurpreet Singh, Chairperson of BSA, encouraged students to continue organizing such programmes in the future.

The event concluded with the distribution of prizes and sweets among the participants and attendees. The winners were as follows:

Expert Talk by Bajaj Finserv

The Career Guidance and Placement Cell in collaboration with the Department of Commerce of B.A.M. Khalsa College, Garhshankar, successfully organized an Expert Talk by Bajaj Finserv on 17th September, 2025. The theme of the program was on career opportunities under the Certificate Program in Banking, Finance, and Insurance (CPBFI).

The session aimed to provide students with career counselling and guidance regarding the growing prospects in the fields of banking, finance, and insurance. The expert speaker from Bajaj Finserv Mr. Kanwaljit highlighted the importance of skill-based short-term courses like CPBFI in enhancing employability and preparing students for competitive job markets.

Students were made aware of the various modules of CPBFI, its practical exposure, and the placement support associated with the program. The interactive session also included a Q&A round, where queries related to career paths, job roles, and industry expectations were addressed.

The event proved highly beneficial for the students, motivating them to explore professional courses alongside their academic journey for better career prospects.

Dr. Gurpreet Singh coordinator CGPC concluded the session with a vote of thanks to the speaker on behalf of the department and the college.

POWERPOINT PRESENTATION COMPETITION UNION BUDGET 2026

The Department of Commerce, Babbar Akali Memorial Khalsa College, Garhshankar, in collaboration with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), organized a PowerPoint Presentation Competition on the theme “Union Budget 2026” on 7th February 2026. 

The event was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Amandeep Heera, Principal and Prof. Kanwar Kulwant Singh, Head of the Department of Commerce. The objective of the competition was to enhance students’ analytical abilities and deepen their understanding of the key highlights and implications of the Union Budget 2026.

The presentations were evaluated by Dr. Gurpreet Singh and Dr. Ajay Dutta IIC President, who served as the Judges for the competition. Dr. Singh appreciated the efforts of the participants and shared valuable insights regarding technical aspects of presentation skills, content organization, data interpretation, clarity, and effective use of visuals. His constructive feedback helped students understand areas of improvement and professional presentation standards. He also announced the results and congratulated the winners.

On this occasion, Dr. Amandeep Heera, Principal, congratulated all the participants and appreciated the efforts of the Department of Commerce for organizing such an informative and academically enriching event. She encouraged students to actively participate in similar activities to enhance their knowledge and confidence.

Workshop on Effective Sales and Marketing Strategies

The Department of Commerce of Babbar Akali Memorial Khalsa College, Garhshankar, in collaboration with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), organized a workshop on Effective Sales and Marketing Strategies on 24th January 2025. The workshop was conducted under the able guidance and encouragement of the respected Principal, Dr. Amandeep Heera, who always emphasizes skill-based and industry-oriented learning for students.

The workshop was conducted by Prof. Gurjinder Kaur, who delivered an insightful session on effective sales and marketing strategies, with special reference to startups. She explained how innovative marketing approaches and strong sales techniques are essential for the growth and sustainability of new business ventures.
