A Two Day Workshop on “Better Writing & Better Pronunciation” Starts from Nov. 18, 2022

 

In its bid to provide best education to one and all, BAM Khalsa College, Garhshankar always strives hard. SGPC, Sri Amritsar Sahib always does its best to help mankind by providing platforms to the members of society at various fronts of Life. Under the guidance and directions of S. Sukhminder Singh, Secretary Education, SGPC, Sri Amritsar Sahib and College Principal Dr. Baljit Singh a two day workshop is going to be organized by the College.

This work shop is especially tailored to suit the needs of teachers who are working in different institutes of SGPC and other schools of the region. This workshop particularly focuses on the writing aspect of English language and its pronunciation. Different resource persons will address the participants. Asst. Prof. Navdeep Singh is the coordinator of this workshop. All teachers are invited to attend the same.

 




Celebration of Punjabi Day by Deptt of Languages

On Nov 12, Dept. of Languages celebrated Punjabi Day by giving emphasis on Punjabi Language-the mother tongue of Punjabis. This day is observed to accentuate the importance of mother tongue and to make students aware regarding the challenges and threats that Punjabi Language is facing at present.

In the race of globalization, Each and every person wants to acquire International Languages such as English, French etc. which is totally acceptable, but what is not acceptable is defaming one’s mother tongue in order to glorify some other languages. To motivate students to take pride in their mother tongue was the basic theme of this event. Prof. Kanwaljeet Kaur addressed the students and raised some serious issues. Professor emphasized the importance of mother tongue i.e. Punjabi and presented some eye opening data to students. Afterwards, Prof. Jaspal Singh gave lecture on History of Punjab, background of Punjabi Language and present situation of this language. Students took great interest in the lecture and afterward they all thanked the staff for giving them such invaluable lessons.

On this occasion, Principal Dr. Baljit Singh applauded the Dept. of Languages for organizing such days. Prof. Arwinder Arora minded the stage. Prof. Lakhwinderjeet Kaur was alsp present there along with all other faculty members.




A Documentary on the Life of “Shaheed-E-Azam Bhagat Singh” Shown to the Students

On the 115th birth anniversary of S. Bhagat Singh, BAM Khalsa College, Garhshankar under the banner of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat organised a programme for the great freedom fighter and national hero of the country.

On this occasion, the College Principal Dr. Baljit Singh also addressed the students and asked them to bring out the best of them. He also asked the youth to take a pledge on his birth anniversary that they will not leave their country and will work hard here to make the country the best.

Prof. Ritu Singh and all other members of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ of BAM Khalsa College made arrangement to show a documentary on the life of S. Bhagat Singh. The function took place at Language Lab of the College. The students took pronounced interest in this documentary and left the lab with new energy and vision.




An Extension Lecture on “Emotional Intelligence (EI)”

The age of modern man is full of new challenges and stress. This turmoil can be seen in almost all the spheres of life. We need to find a solution to tackle this situation, in which EI comes to our rescue. EI has become even more important than IQ. Emotional intelligence (EI) is the ability to identify and regulate one’s emotions and understand the emotions the others. EI helps you to build relationships, reduce team stress, defuse conflict and improve over all mental health of the individuals. Students, after Post COVID 19, are facing many problems and feel themselves lost.
In order to facilitate its students, the faculty of the college tries its level best. Department of Languages and Social Sciences organized an extension lecture on the theme “Emotional Intelligence for a Better Mental Health and Academic Success”. The lecture was organized on Sept. 24, 2022 at College Library Hall. Daniel G. Mekonnen, an international research scholar, was invited as speaker to address the students of the college. Mr. Daniel provided a great insight to this new emerging science. He gave a detailed lecture on self-awareness, social-awareness, self-regulation, relationship-management, empathy & social skills. The students showed great interest in this lecture and many questions were asked from the speaker, in response to which Mr. Daniel provided satisfactory replies to the students of the College.
Principal, Dr. Baljit Singh also addressed the audience and gave a warm welcome to the speaker. Principal, Dr. Baljit Singh also laid great importance to emotional intelligence and asked the students to seek help from the Holy Scriptures. These texts make us emotionally strong and one can master his emotions by seeking help from the same. Principal also congratulated both the departments and Prof. Navdeep Singh (Co-Ordinator) for organizing such a wonderful and meaningful event for the students. Prof. Jaspal Singh, Prof. Lakhwinderjeet Kaur, Prof. Ritu Singh, Prof. Arvinder Singh, Prof. Harwinder Kaur, Prof. Arvinder Kaur, Prof. Navdeep Singh and all other members of the faculty were present there.




A SIX-DAY FDP WAS STARTED AT BAM KHALSA COLLEGE, GARHSHANKAR

A Six-Day Faculty Development Programme popularly known as FDP, entitled “Imparting
Soft Skills for Success at the Workplace” (17-22 January, 2022) got started today at BAM
Khalsa College, Garhshankar. Principal, Dr. Baljit Singh inaugurated the session with his
speech on the importance of soft-skills. For opening session, Prof. Deepika Pathak was
invited as resource person, who is having a great expertise on phonetics and linguistic. A
detailed discussion was held over English sounds and pronunciation. Ms. Pathak facilitated
the participants with her deep insight on the sounds of English language and art of
pronunciation. Principal, Dr. Baljit Singh praised the Co-Ordinator of this FDP, Prof.
Navdeep Singh for organizing this FDP and motivated other faculty to organize such fruitful
ventures in future to get maximum benefits.




Celebration of World Poetry Day at Khalsa College, Garhshankar (March 21, 2022)


Department of Languages celebrated World Poetry
Day by organising Poem Writing Competition.
To commemorate World Poetry Day and to mark the importance of Poetry, Deptt of Languages of BAM Khalsa College, Garhshanlar, organised Poem Writing Competition. In this competition students were asked to write poems centred around the theme of ‘War and Peace’ or any other theme of students’ interest. Poems were collected by the staff members and handed over to the Judges. S. Nirmal Singh Bhattal (S.S.S.S. Denowal), a renowned poet and teacher, performed the duty to evaluate poems and best poems were selected and adjudged as 1st , 2nd and 3rd. 1st prize was shared jointly by Akashdeep Singh (BA 1) and Arsh Singh Mann (B.Sc. 2), whereas 2 nd position was bagged again jointly by Sapna Devi (BA 2) and Kirandeep Kaur (Bsc-B.Ed. 1). Third prize was shared by Geeta Kumari (BA1), Kritika (B.com.1), and Jasleen Saini (B.Com. 1). Prof. Jaspal Singh(Head) and Prof. Ritu Singh addressed the students and provided quintessential information regarding poetry. On this occasion Prof. Kiranjot Kaur, Prof. Naresh Kumari, Prof. Navdeep Singh, Prof. Beant Kaur and Prof. Poonam were present and rendered their services to make this event a successful one. Prof. Jaspal Singh, Convenor and Head of the Deptt praised the coordinator of the event, Prof. Navdeep Singh and accoladed the Deptt of Languages for organising such a wonderful event for instilling seeds of poetry among the students. Principal, Dr. Baljit Singh congratulated the Deptt for organising this competition and urged to keep thriving for the excellence.
