On April 24,2024 BAM Khalsa College Garhshankar hosted a fabric painting workshop organized  by Professor Jatinder Kaur Assistant Professor Home Sciences (Department of Life Sciences).Mrs. Ritu Lal Led the session, sharing techniques for drawing painting and block painting on fabric she also demonstrated simple way to create home made blocks, helping student design unique fabric patterns. Prof Lakhwinderjeet Kaur(O) expressed gratitude to Mrs Lal for her guidance. Twenty students and Dr Manbirko and Kuldeep Kaur were also present at  event.

Technical talk cum webinar on “Research Methodology for Beginners” was organized by Department of Life Sciences in collaboration with REEDS . Resource person of this webinar was Dr. Rajni Lamba  Anthropologist &CEO of REEDS.Dr.Janki Aggarwal Welcomed the resource person and participants.she also motivate the students to be a part of research activities as research id need of the hour. In the opening remarks Dr Lamba led emphasis on three keys ofResearch  i.e  What, Why , How. She emphasized on that select your topic first then select the area of research, area of interest& study the material available. Always start with small/easy  research.  she also gave information to the student that research may be theoretical or may be practical it may be field research or a lab research . She gave information on methodology also.

A one-day educational tour for the students of Science Departments and Education Department of Babbar Akali Memorial Khalsa College, Garshankar, was taken to Nadha Sahib, Siswan Community Reserve and Yadvindra Garden, Pinjore. First, the students took a walk on the Siswan Nature Trail and learned about various types of trees, natural herbs and also enjoyed boating.

After this, the students visited Gurdwara Sahib Patshahi Dasavi Nadha Sahib and gathered religious and historical information as well as saw Guru Ka Langar. After that they were taken to Yadvindra Garden Pinjore where they all touched together Participated in Janjeer-Chuh Poshan-Pa, Kokala-Chhapakhi, and Intakshari and enjoyed a lot and also interacted with the tourists from different states. Dr.Manbeer Kaur, Dr. Mukesh Sharma ,P.Naresh kumari.Dr.Preerinder Singh and faculty member also went on this trip.

On 22nd March World Water Day was celebrated by the department of life sciences of BAM Khalsa College Garhshankar under the theme ‘Water For Peace’. On this event a documentary was shown to the students by Dr. Manbeer Kaur HOD of the life sciences department. Students were very enthuseastic while watching and give answer to all the questions related to the documentary. Dr. Manbeer further said about how we can save water and minimize the missuse of water. Dr Kuldeep Kaur, Prof. Jatinder Kaur and Prof. Ashwini Kumar present on this day.

Officiating  Principal Professor Lakhwinder Jeet Kaur praise the life science department for their efforts to make students aware about World Water Day.

The National Science Day was celebrated by the Departments of Sciences and Education in collaboration with III Science Society of Students at B.A.M. Khalsa College, Garhshankar. The day was celebrated with great enthusiasm under the theme “Indigenous Technology for Viksit Bharat”. Around fifty students participated in various events. The events organized on this day were Poster Making, Poster Presentation, PowerPoint Presentation, Model/Project Presentation, Games and Puzzles. Students exhibited their creativity, knowledge and innovation by using indigenous material. They also created the awareness for the role of science in sustainable development for future. Dr. KuldeepKaur and Dr. Mukesh Sharma were the judges. The winners were awarded and all the participants were given participation certificates. At the end, prize distribution function was organized in the science lawn. Prof JaswinderKaur, Secretary, III Science Society of Students, appreciated the students for participating enthusiastically in the events and emphasized the role of science in daily life. Prof. LahwinderjeetKaur, Principal (O) motivated the students to participate in such events in future.Principal Jaspal Singh told the students about the positive and negative effects of science and encouraged the students to use science for global welfare. Principal Jaspalsingh, Dr. JankiAgarwal, Dr. ArwinderArora, Dr. ManbeerKaur, Dr. SanghaGurbakshKaur, Prof. JaswinderKaur, Prof. JatinderKaur, Dr. Mukesh Sharma, Dr. Preetinder Singh and Prof. Deepika honored the students by giving medals. During this, Professors of Life Sciences, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Education Departments  were present.

In BAM Khalsa college Garhshankar world wetland day was celebrated by the life sciences department under the keen leadership of officiating principal professor Lakhwinder Jeet Kaur. Doctor Manbeer Kaur HOD of life sciences department talk about the importance of wetlands. She said the small ponds of villages are little wetlands where small flora and fauna are present and conserved she also put light upon 3 wetlands of Punjab or documentary was also shown showed to the student student show there interest and take pledge to conserve the wetlands. Dr. Kuldeep Kaur, Prof Jatinder Kaur, Prof. Ashwani Kumar and lab attendant Jaspal Singh and Hardeep Singh also took pledge.

The two days orientation program was organized at B.A.M. Khalsa College, Garhshankar, under the aegis of Institute for the Environment Conservation Advocacy on 15^th and 16^th January, 2024. On 15^th January, Dr. Manbeer Kaur explained very nicely about the conservation of biodiversity with special reference to campus and adjoining flora. On 16^th January, 2024 Dr. Kuldeep Kaur shared hand on expertise on cleaning domestic waste water biologically through Root Zone Technique. The main aim of action research is to aware the students and transverse the technology to community for treating and recycling waste water. Students visited the Root Zone Technology unit of the college for practical exposure and were astonished by watching the working of the unit.

A webinar on January 31^st, 2024 was organized under the supervision of Dr. Manbeer Kaur HOD of  life sciences department, BAM Khalsa College Garhshankar. The topic of webinar was “Research Methodology Biodiversity Conservation and Water Management”.

Dr. Charan Kumar (Associate Professor – zoology of AS college Khanna) was the speaker. He focused his speech on conserving the environment through biodiversity. He said if we want to progress in this field, one must start from lower level that i.e at village level. He explained a conservation of biodiversity by giving examples of birds nesting behavior, clutch size rearing etc.

Welcome speech was given by Vice Principal Professor Kanwar kulwant Singh and vote of thanks was done by Dr Kuldeep Kaur. The college students and staff were present in this webinar.

O  zone Preservation Day was celebrated under the supervision of Dr.Manbeer Kaur HOD Life Sciences department of B.A.M.Khalsa College, Garshankar. On this day students took part in many activities and tried their best to show how ozone layer is important for life. Students also made villagers aware about the importance of Ozone layer. Why we have to preserve it. People showed their interest and gave their consent to make their efforts fruitful.

Principal Prof Lakhwinderjeet Kaur also gave a remarkable speech on importance of ozone and distributed prizes to the participantwho took part in various activities.

All the staff and students of  lifesciences department was present to celebrate this day.

On 15th September 2023 an awareness lecture by Arjan Vir Foundation in coordination with the Life Sciences Department was held at BAM Khalsa College Garhshankar. The convener of the foundation Mr Naresh Gupta explained  in a very simple way about stem cells and motivated the staff members and students to become the members of this campaign. One man’s effort can save the life of others. The founder of the foundation Mrs Simi singh narrated her own story how she lost her  son due to blood cancer. Her son could be saved with stem cells but unfortunately couldn’t find any donor. So she promised to move  door to door and aware people about what stem cells ( bone marrow) are and how they are useful .She also encourage people to register with them by giving swap for stem cell registry ,so that we can save anyone’s life from leukemia and other blood disorders. Principal Madam  LakhwinderJeet Kaur welcomed the  honorary guests. Faculty members honored them  with Croton  plants.Dr Manbeer Kaur organized the event very well.
