The institution’s innovation council (IIC) of B.A.M. Khalsa College Garhshankar in collaboration with department of mathematics and JNV Pojewal organized an outreach activity “A Role model interaction” under the Vigyan Jyoti Programme at JNV Pojewal on August 27, 2024. As a resource person Dr. Preetinder Singh, assistant professor of the Department of Mathematics gave a seminar on the topic “Career in Sciences” to the Vigyan Jyoti Scholars. Around 50 students of 12th class from different schools and faculty of JNV Pojewal were present in the seminar. The main theme of the seminar was to make students aware the vast number of opportunities if they choose career in basic sciences. Dr. Preetinder Singh explained the importance of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subject in trending areas of research and technology to the audience.







The Department of Mathematics at Babbar Akali Memorial Khalsa College, Garhshankar, under the guidance of Principal Dr. Amandeep Heera, hosted an enlightening Expert Talk on 13th March 2025 to celebrate Pi Day, celebrated globally as International Mathematics Day, to honor the mathematical constant π (pi) and its profound significance in the field of mathematics. The event, held in the college’s Smart Room at 10:30 AM, saw the participation of faculty members and students who eagerly gathered to explore the theme “The Magic of Pi and Symmetry.” The celebration began with a warm welcome address by Principal Dr. Amandeep Heera, who underscored the importance of Pi Day as a testament to the universal relevance of mathematics. She highlighted how π, an irrational number that is central to geometry, physics, and engineering, symbolizes the boundless possibilities of mathematical exploration and aligns with the college’s commitment to fostering scientific curiosity and critical thinking. Dr. Preetinder Singh introduced the distinguished guest speaker, Dr. Yashpreet Kaur, Assistant Professor from the Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology. Dr. Preetinder Singh lauded Dr. Yashpreet Kaur’s notable contributions to mathematics and her expertise, setting the stage for an engaging session. In her captivating keynote lecture, Dr. Yashpreet Kaur provided profound insights into the interplay between π and symmetry as observed in nature, art, and technology. Her interactive presentation, enriched with visual models and historical anecdotes, made complex concepts accessible to all attendees. The session concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Deepika, Head of the Mathematics Department, who expressed gratitude to Dr.Yashpreet Kaur for her enlightening discourse and acknowledged the efforts of the organizing team and the enthusiastic participation of students and faculty members. Attendees included Dr. Manbeer Kaur, Dr. Kuldeep Kaur, Dr. Jatinder Kaur, Prof. Chandni, Prof. Simran Kaur, Prof. Neeraj Virdi, and Prof. Amanpreet Kaur. The event concluded on a high note, reinforcing the beauty and utility of mathematics and inspiring students to delve deeper into mathematical sciences. Notably, the college chose to observe Pi Day on 13th March 2025, a day ahead of the globally recognized date of 14th March, to accommodate academic schedules.




Babbar Akali Memorial Khalsa College, Garhshankar Celebrates National Science Day
Under the management of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, Babbar Akali Memorial Khalsa College, Garhshankar, celebrated National Science Day with great zeal and enthusiasm. The event, organized by the Department of Science and Education in collaboration with the III Society of Science Students, EEP, and IIC, was held under the visionary leadership of Principal Dr. Amandeep Heera.
The primary objective of this celebration was to nurture scientific temperament, foster creativity, and encourage innovative thinking among students. As part of the event, Poster Making and Poster Presentation competitions were conducted, providing a platform for young minds to showcase their scientific insights and artistic expression.

The prize distribution ceremony was a moment of pride and encouragement for all participants. The distinguished presence of Prof. Lakwinderjeet Kaur, Dr. Janki Aggarwal, and esteemed faculty members from the Science and Education departments further added value to the event.
The celebration of National Science Day at the college successfully instilled a spirit of scientific inquiry and aesthetic appreciation among students, reinforcing the importance of research, innovation, and creativity in shaping the future.




On August 23, 2024, Babbar Akali Memorial Khalsa College, Garhshankar, organized an expert talk titled “Accelerators and Incubation Opportunities.” The event was hosted by the Department of Mathematics in collaboration with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC). The session, held in the Environment Lab, featured Dr. Kuldeep Kaur, Innovation Ambassador and Assistant Professor in Botany, as the speaker.
Dr.Kuldeep Kaur provided an insightful overview of accelerators and incubators, emphasizing their importance in supporting early-stage startups through mentorship, funding, and networking opportunities. She highlighted the benefits for students and faculty, encouraging them to utilize these platforms to transform innovative ideas into successful ventures. The talk also underscored the significance of local and regional innovation and the need for collaboration between academic institutions, industry, and government.
The event, presided over by Dr. Ajay Dutta and hosted by Prof. Deepika, was well-received by the attendees and marked a successful step in promoting entrepreneurship within the college community.




The Department of Mathematics, in collaboration with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), organized a two-day Idea Showcase: Poster Presentation of Ideas & Linkage with Innovation Ambassadors at Babbar Akali Memorial Khalsa College, Garhshankar, on 25th and 26th November 2024. The event aimed to foster innovation, creativity, and presentation skills among students while encouraging them to think critically and propose innovative solutions to real-world problems.
On the first day, Prof Deepika, Innovation Ambassador and Convener IIC, conducted an interactive session to guide students about the theme of the event. She introduced the concept of idea generation, poster presentation, and the importance of linking innovation to practical solutions. Prof Deepika motivated the participants to explore their creativity and refine their ideas into clear, actionable presentations. The session proved highly beneficial as it equipped the students with insights into preparing for their poster presentations.
The second day of the event featured the main activity where students presented their ideas through creative and well-designed posters. Each participant explained his/her concepts in detail, highlighting the feasibility, practicality, and innovative aspects of their solutions. The evaluators for the event were Dr Amandeep Heera (Principal of the College), Prof Deepika (Innovation Ambassador & Convener IIC) and Dr Ajay Dutta (Innovation Ambassador & President IIC). The evaluators assessed the presentations on various parameters such as creativity, clarity of thought, and potential impact.
At the end of the event, the evaluators announced the winners, and prizes were distributed to the students securing first, second and third positions. The winners were appreciated for their outstanding performance and innovative ideas. The event concluded with encouraging remarks from the evaluators, who commended the participants for their efforts and creativity.
The success of the event was made possible due to the collective efforts of the organizers, including Dr Preetinder Singh, Prof Chandni, Prof Kamini, and Prof Pragti, under the leadership and guidance of the Principal, Dr Amandeep Heera. The two-day Idea Showcase not only provided a platform for students to present their innovative ideas but also inspired them to develop a mindset focused on innovation and problem-solving.



The Department of Mathematics at Babbar Akali Memorial Khalsa College, Garhshankar, in collaboration with IQAC, organized a two-day workshop on “Mathematics & its Scope”. The event aimed to highlight the importance of mathematics and its career opportunities.
Principal Dr. Amandeep Heera welcomed the guest speaker, Dr. Nisar Lone, from the JK Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Srinagar, and his colleague Dr. Sarfaraz Ahmed, Assistant Professor from the same institute. The workshop was coordinated and hosted by Prof. Deepika.
Dr. Nisar Lone delivered engaging lectures over two days, covering the applications and scope of mathematics. Student interaction sessions allowed participants to ask questions and clarify doubts. Tutorials conducted by Prof. Deepika on Day 1 and Prof. Chandni on Day 2 helped students strengthen their problem-solving skills.
The event concluded with Prof. Kanwar Kulwant Singh expressing the vote of thanks, acknowledging the efforts of the speaker, guests, faculty, and students. The workshop was a successful initiative that inspired students to explore mathematics as a field of study and research.







On February 28, 2024, the Mathematics Department in collaboration with IIC at Babbar Akali Memorial Khalsa College, Garhshankar, celebrated National Science Day with great enthusiasm. To mark the occasion, a Games and Puzzles Competition was organized, aimed at engaging students in enjoyable yet challenging mathematical activities that promote problem-solving skills and logical thinking.
A total of 30 students from the Science and Education streams participated in the competition. The event successfully combined the celebration of Science Day with the development of important cognitive skills. The results were announced on the same day, with trophies and certificates awarded to the winners. Participation certificates were also distributed to all participants in recognition of their involvement.
The event was attended by Prof. Jaswinder Kaur, Head of the Mathematics Department, along with Prof. Deepika, Prof Preetinder Singh and other faculty members, who praised the students’ enthusiasm and the educational value of the competition.
