National Science Day has been celebrated on 28 February, 1987 for first time. On this day, we remember invention of “Raman Effect” by Indian Scientist Sir C.V. Raman. This year National Science Day has been celebrated on 28 February, 2023 by Department of Sciences and Education in collaboration with IIC and MGNCRE under the aegis of III Society of Science. The theme of the National Science Day was “Global Science for Global Well Being”. On the day, different competitions like poster presentations, powerpoint presentations, model making, poster making etc. have been conducted by various department. These different events have been conducted under the guidance of Heads of the various Department. The Chemistry Department of B.A.M Khalsa College, Garhshankar has organized poster presentations on the topic “Global Science for Global Well Being” on “National Science Day”. The students of B.Sc. (Medical/Non-medical), B.Sc.B.Ed. (Medical/Non-medical) & M.Sc. (Chemistry/Mathematics) have  participated in the poster presentations. The 1st position in the competition has been bagged by Abhinandini and Simran Kaur of B.Sc.B.Ed-1^st year, 2nd position was nailed by Anchal and Manisha Rani of M.Sc.(Chemistry)-2^nd year and 3rd position was secured by Lovepreet Singh and Karan Singh Mann of M.Sc.(Chemistry)-1^st year, Kajal and Gurwinder Kaur of M.Sc.(Mathematics)-2^nd year. This event was also attended by Prof. Jaspal Singh (Principal), Dr. Manbeer Kaur (H.O.D lifesciences), Dr. Kuldeep Kaur, Prof. Jaswinder Kaur (H.O.D Mathematics), Dr. Janki Aggarwal, Dr. Mukesh Sharma (H.O.D Chemistry), Dr. Sangha Gurbaksh Kaur (H.O.D Eduaction), Dr. Preetinder Singh (H.O.D. Physics) and all the staff members of Science and Education. Organizing committee members for the event of poster presentations are Dr. Mukesh Sharma, Prof. Neeraj Virdi, Prof. Baldeep Kaur, Prof. Aayna Cheetu, Prof. Sakshi. Prof. Jaspal Singh(Principal) also appreciated the posters that has presented by the students in the event. In the celebration of National Science Day, around 35 teaching faculties and 100 students of various departments were present.

The Department of Chemistry of B.A.M Khalsa College, Garhshankar in collaboration with Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) and Mahatma Gandhi National Council for Rural Education (MGNCRE) under the aegis of III Society of Science organized one day workshop cum seminar on the topic “Discard plastic, Adopt Innovative Alternatives” on 22-Feb-2023. In this event, the key speaker of the event Mr. Neeraj Virdi delivered a talk on the topic in which various environmental problems arising due to plastic were discussed. He also proposed other innovative alternatives so as to reduce the use of plastic. Also, the students of B.Sc./B.Sc.B.Ed.  and M.Sc. Chemistry have  participated in the PowerPoint presentations in which First position was bagged by Manisha Rani and Anchal of MSc (Chemistry)-2^nd year, Second position was secured by Lishika and Jashan of B.Sc. (Non-medical)-3^rd year and Third position was nailed by Kirandeep Kaur and Sohani of B.Sc.-1^st year. Also, Mansi Rana, Riya, Ishika Verma, Simran Kaur, Harmanpreet Kaur, Kirti, Lovepreet Singh and Karan Singh Mann got consolation prizes. This event was also attended by Prof. Jaspal Singh (Principal), Dr. Manbeer Kaur (H.O.D life sciences), Dr. Kuldeep Kaur, Prof. Jaswinder Kaur (H.O.D Mathematics), Dr. Janki Aggarwal, Prof. Preetinder Kaur. Organizing committee members are Dr. Mukesh Sharma, Prof. Baldeep Kaur, Prof. Aayna Cheetu, Prof. Sakshi. Prof. Jaswal Singh (Principal) appreciated the PowerPoint presentations given by students and advices the students to minimize the use of plastic. The event has been attended by 9 teaching faculty of different departments and 54 students of science of the college.

On Feb 28, 2023, a ‘Global Science for Global wellbeing carnival’ was conducted by Science and Education Department on the occasion of ‘National Science day’ at B.A.M. Khalsa College Garhshankar. The Physics Department organized a Model/Project Presentation Competition on this special occasion. The goal of this activity was to build in students a scientific temperament, innovation, and creativity. There were a total of 7 teams made up of students from the science stream that participated in this activity. Each team shows the judges their project or model.
At the end of the event, our respected Principal Prof. Jaspal Singh gave a lecture and discussed the impact of science on the world. After that results were announced and prizes were distributed among students.

On 22/Sep /2022, the Birth Anniversary of the Great Scientist “Michael Faraday” was celebrated by the Department of Physics, B.A.M. Khalsa College Garhshankar. On this Special occasion, Quiz and Poster Presentation competitions were organized. Quiz was based on General Science and concepts of Physics. For the Poster Presentation, there were some topics such as ‘Life and Times of Michael Faraday’, ‘Experimental Devices’, ‘Evolution of Universe’, ‘Nuclear Reactor and Detector’& ‘Communication’. The motive of the competition was to gain knowledge about Physics. Around 40 Students participated in these activities. The result of these activities was announced on the same day and after that prizes were distributed.

An activity on the “National Science Day” on February 28, 2022, has been organized by the Physics department, B.A.M. Khalsa college, Garhshankar. National Science Day is celebrated every year on 28th February throughout India in memory of scientist Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman who won the Noble prize for the discovery of the Raman effect. Dr. Preetinder Singh, Prof. Deepshikha, Prof. Amanpreet Kaur, Prof. Neha Rana, and Prof. Manpreet Singh were the Members of the Organizing Committee. The main aim of this celebration is to share the importance of science and inculcate scientific temperament among the students through quizzes, lectures, fun games, competitions, and showing experiments.

On 11^th February 2021, a webinar on “Alpha-Decay Half lives” was organized by the Physics department, B.A.M. Khalsa College Garhshankar. In this webinar, our key speaker was Dr. Harjeet Kaur, Assistant professor in Physics at GNDU, Amritsar. The webinar was conducted at a Google meeting. There were above 90 Participants in this webinar.

At about 11:00 a.m. webinar starts with the opening remarks including an introduction to Nuclear Physics and technologies. After that Dr. Harjeet kaur discussed the agenda of the said webinar and told us how discoveries in Nuclear Physics are the basis of life-saving technologies such as radiotherapy, cancer research, medical imaging, and smoke detectors. She also discussed how alpha decay could treat serious diseases like cancer.

Afterward, the Webinar ended with the question-and-Answer series. It ends at about 12:00 p.m. on the same day.
