On 28th September 2024, BAM Khalsa College, Garhshankar, in collaboration with the National Cadet Corps (NCC) and the Department of Commerce, organized a seminar on the Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana (Saubhagya). The event, attended by approximately 60 students, aimed to shed light on the importance and impact of the Saubhagya scheme, a significant government initiative designed to achieve universal household electrification across India. Led by Prof. Kanwar Kulwant Singh (HOD, Commerce) and Dr. Gurpreet Singh (ANO), under the guidance of Commanding officer Col-Dipankar Singh and Principal Dr. Amandeep Heera, the seminar provided a comprehensive overview of the scheme’s objectives, which include providing free electricity connections to Below Poverty Line (BPL) households and affordable solutions for non-BPL families. The Saubhagya scheme, launched in 2017 with a financial outlay of Rs. 16,320 crore, focuses on rural and urban electrification by ensuring infrastructure support, including the installation of energy meters, transformers, and necessary poles. The seminar also highlighted the scheme’s wide-reaching benefits, such as improving the quality of life through enhanced access to education, healthcare, and communication, and promoting economic growth by empowering small industries and businesses in rural areas. Additionally, the scheme’s social impact, particularly in reducing dependence on kerosene and enhancing public safety, was emphasized. The event concluded with a discussion on how the Saubhagya Yojana is not only bringing light to every household but also contributing significantly to India’s broader socio-economic development. The seminar was well-received, providing valuable insights into how electrification can transform lives, especially in rural communities.
