Expert Talk on the Occasion of Pi Day

The Department of Mathematics at Babbar Akali Memorial Khalsa College, Garhshankar, under the guidance of Principal Dr. Amandeep Heera, hosted an enlightening Expert Talk on 13th March 2025 to celebrate Pi Day, celebrated globally as International Mathematics Day, to honor the mathematical constant π (pi) and its profound significance in the field of mathematics. The event, held in the college’s Smart Room at 10:30 AM, saw the participation of faculty members and students who eagerly gathered to explore the theme “The Magic of Pi and Symmetry.” The celebration began with a warm welcome address by Principal Dr. Amandeep Heera, who underscored the importance of Pi Day as a testament to the universal relevance of mathematics. She highlighted how π, an irrational number that is central to geometry, physics, and engineering, symbolizes the boundless possibilities of mathematical exploration and aligns with the college’s commitment to fostering scientific curiosity and critical thinking. Dr. Preetinder Singh introduced the distinguished guest speaker, Dr. Yashpreet Kaur, Assistant Professor from the Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology. Dr. Preetinder Singh lauded Dr. Yashpreet Kaur’s notable contributions to mathematics and her expertise, setting the stage for an engaging session. In her captivating keynote lecture, Dr. Yashpreet Kaur provided profound insights into the interplay between π and symmetry as observed in nature, art, and technology. Her interactive presentation, enriched with visual models and historical anecdotes, made complex concepts accessible to all attendees. The session concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Deepika, Head of the Mathematics Department, who expressed gratitude to Dr.Yashpreet Kaur for her enlightening discourse and acknowledged the efforts of the organizing team and the enthusiastic participation of students and faculty members. Attendees included Dr. Manbeer Kaur, Dr. Kuldeep Kaur, Dr. Jatinder Kaur, Prof. Chandni, Prof. Simran Kaur, Prof. Neeraj Virdi, and Prof. Amanpreet Kaur. The event concluded on a high note, reinforcing the beauty and utility of mathematics and inspiring students to delve deeper into mathematical sciences. Notably, the college chose to observe Pi Day on 13th March 2025, a day ahead of the globally recognized date of 14th March, to accommodate academic schedules.
